Three Braces-Friendly Recipes To Try This Summer

With summer right around the corner, warmer and more pleasant weather is finally here! Unless you are one of our patients wearing Invisalign, you may be wondering about which foods you should steer clear of that can cause damage to your braces, such as hard, sticky, and gooey foods. Doctors Allison and Robert Loeb want all of their patients to know that there are plenty of summer recipes out there that are both delicious and orthodontist-approved. You can find a few of them below!

Banana Strawberry Smoothie

There is nothing more refreshing on a hot day than a cold smoothie! Here is what you will need to put together this banana strawberry smoothie.

Ingredients:

  • 1 6-oz. container of Greek style strawberry yogurt
  • 1 ½ cups low fat milk
  • 1 cup frozen or fresh strawberries
  • 1 banana, sliced

Directions:

Place all ingredients in a blender and mix on high for about 1 minute or until smooth. Pour into two glasses and serve immediately.

Baked Chicken Soft Tacos

These extremely easy-to-make chicken tacos are fast and delectable, so consider making enough for the whole gang to enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 2 - 3 chicken breasts, seasoned with salt & pepper and baked until done.
  • 1/2 envelope) taco seasoning mix
  • 6 soft tortillas
  • 1 tomato diced into small pieces
  • 1 cucumber, peeled and diced into small pieces
  • 1 cup of finely shredded/chopped lettuce
  • ¾ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • I small onion, finely chopped
  • Sour cream and taco sauce

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place the cooked chicken pieces in a large bowl. Sprinkle the taco seasoning over the chicken and mix. Then add the cheese & onions and blend well to make the filling. Roll up the chicken filling in the tortillas and place tortillas in a glass baking dish that has been brushed with oil. Cover with foil and bake for about 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from oven. Top the baked tacos with the lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, taco sauce and sour cream and enjoy!

Roasted Tomato Pasta With Mozzarella

This pasta recipe is a real crowd-pleaser and perfect to take along to family reunions and outdoor parties.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound cherry tomatoes, cut in half (can be red or yellow or both)
  • 2 teaspoons oregano
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • I 16 oz packed rotini pasta
  • 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 8 oz cubed mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup fresh basil, snipped

Directions:

Preheat oven to 450. place tomato halves cut sides up in a foil-lined baking pan. Sprinkle with oregano, salt, and garlic. Then drizzle with the ¼ cup of olive oil. Roast the tomatoes uncovered for about 20 minutes or until shriveled and lightly browned. Set aside. Then cook the pasta according to package directions and drain. In a large bowl, whisk together the 1/3 cup olive oil, vinegar and pepper. Add the warm pasta to the bowl and mix. Allow time to cool. Add the tomatoes and pan drippings, the cheese, and the basil to the pasta and toss. Serve at room temperature.
